This big boy here is a wreckfish caught off the coast of the Carolinas. Wreckfish are a deep sea fish that are named after being found around ship wrecks and caves. This was about a 40-pounder but they can grow up to 200-plus and have a long life span. One of the reasons they have such long lifespan is there are no known predators to these fish. The flavor is similar to halibut and grouper with a large flake and white flesh. This is a pretty rare fish because it only inhabits a few areas of the world and if you see it on a menu, you should go for it. It’s been a while since I’ve made a sustainability post but always keep it in mind that you should question where your food comes from, try replacing a small portion of your diet to plant based, and non-plastic straws aren’t that bad. Eat responsibly.
